If I ever have a problem with a game on steam this always the first thing i do.

Yes and that worked, but I had to delete it first to get the install option.

After that I had to wait for the 10GB game to download and install itself.

After the last update, starting the game shows a black screen (menu music and button presses can still be heard) making the game totally unplayable.

UPDATE: I was able to get a tad further with the help of the Steam server browser to find the epilepsy-inducing monstrosity in the video linked below (warped polygons and stuff, mainly not affecting props, characters, the ground).
